After Johan Beukes matriculated from Hoërskool Sentraal in Bloemfontein in 1996, he studied Theology at the University of the Free State. He completed his BA Theol, BAHons Theol and MDiv Degree at the University of the Free State. Johan then completed an Honours Degree in Industrial Psychology at the University of North West and was accredited as a psychometrist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He did his MPhil at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on Personal and Professional Leadership. Johan completed his Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Educational Psychology under the topic: “Facilitation of awareness in decision making as integral part of mental health.”
Complementing his studies, the Potchefstroom VIP Coaching Institute accredited him as a qualified Life and Business Coach. He is also a qualified Executive Strengths Coach (www.africanmosaic.com) and has completed various short courses, including Advanced Career Coaching with Jopie van Rooyen and Partners. As a facilitator, Johan is accredited as a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI Step I and II facilitator) for individuals and teams, as well as a Cultural Transformation Tools 1 (CTT1) facilitator (www.valuescentre.com). He is also in the process of being accredited as an Enneagram facilitator (www.enneagramsa.co.za; www.integrative.co.za). INSEAD, the world renowned business school, offered him an opportunity to complete an International Social Entrepreneurship programme in 2015 (http://www.insead.edu/home/). HARVARD University invited Johan to partake in a 2016 Emerging Leaders course with more than 60 international leaders from more than 20 countries. Recently, he was invited to attend a Distinctive Leadership Course at the Leadership College London (https://leadershipcollegelondon.org).
His academic interests support his core life business, which he explains as: the accompaniment of people, especially leaders and organisations, on their journeys towards having a meaningful impact in the world through their purpose, or who they are.
Johan was the Chief Executive Officer of in Harmonie – place of change – founded by Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg. Since 2015, a few thousand leaders from more than 6o nations experienced the in Harmonie Journey. This leadership formation paradigm was developed by Johan and aimed to move individuals and organisations from disharmony to harmony. During his time at in Harmonie, Johan hosted executive retreats where he guided board members to discern and decide on a strategy for their organisations (www.inharmonie.co.za ). In 2019 this formation paradigm was implemented in Remgro (https://www.remgro.com ) as part of their future-fit campaign.
Johan was previously a Portfolio Change Manager at Barclays Absa Africa Technology, and one of his main responsibilities was to develop and embed a strategic change management framework for the organisation. Prior to this, he was the Change Manager (responsible for strategic stakeholder management on executive level, communication and training for more than 37 000 employees) in charge of implementing a new SAP Expense Management system as part of an award-winning global project for Barclays Absa. As an Organisational Change Management (OCM) consultant at T-systems South Africa (www.t-systems.co.za) he facilitated strategic processes, and coached individuals and teams to move from success to significance. As a leadership expert and strategist he worked with Thinking Fusion (https://www.thinkingfusion.co.za) and facilitate many Leadership and Strategy (Brand Identity, Brand Promise etc) workshops for African Rainbow Minerals and Anglo American. He was the culture architect (www.mosaiek.com) and leader in various communities and subsequently became an expert in the dynamics of the new generation and multicultural groups. He developed numerous New Generation Leadership Programmes with organisations such as Thinking Fusion, MAD Charity (www.madcharity.org) and Mosaïek (www.mosaiek.com). The latest leadership development initiatives, were called HeyLead and Celebrating Diversity and were done in partnership with Fedsas (www.fedsas.org.za). It had the potential to impact about 1 600 schools in South-Africa.
In an attempt to address a worldwide business need – the measuring, monitoring and evaluation of human capital in organisations – Johan was involved in the development of Quainted (www.quainted.com), a cloud-based Enterprise Social Platform. Quainted was selected to participate in the Seedstars competition hosted at Google in Switzerland (http://ventureburn.com/2015/07/meet-sas-12-selected-startups-seedstars-world/). Companies such as TechnoGym, Accenture, Deloitte, EOH, ILSC and Gallup Africa, are either interested in or are already utilising this platform.
Additionally, he was a senior facilitator with iGubu, which focused on the facilitation of reconciliation at the University of the Free State and Pretoria. He was the Module Head for Professional Leadership and Emotional Leadership of the MPhil degree at the University of Johannesburg, as well as the programme leader and developer of short leadership courses through the South African Theological Seminary (SATS). He was also a guest lecturer for a Masters programme for leadership at the University of Johannesburg, Vega the Brand Communication School (Leadership), Milpark Business School, and Mosaïek Academy (Leadership). Johan is passionate about inspirational speaking and speaks regularly at various events and organisations such as Gibs, Vlerick Business School etc. He is also coaching various CEO’s and high profile leaders.
It has been a privilege to review a Book Chapter for volume ‘Leadership, Discernment and Spirituality’ that was published by ETF (https://www.etf.edu) in Leuven. Through Milpark Business School (Milpark.ac.za) and the Da Vinci Institute (www.davinci.ac.za) he was assigned as a Supervisor.
